Since my days as a bookseller, I’ve felt that the cheery cover art and slogans don’t do justice to the depth of her stories. I have absolutely no idea why she switched publishers, but I wonder if she was feeling some discontent with how her books were marketed.

Now she has a new book coming out June 2019! The title is The Rest of the Story, and it’s her first book with a new publisher. BUT NOW with a cheeky reposting of the book poster on social media, she has revealed that Wayward Son will be with us in 2019! No release date yet, but double the Rainbow Rowell in one year is miraculous.Īs if that wasn’t enough excitement for one week, I was scrolling through Instagram last night and saw an announcement by Sarah Dessen. Rainbow has also been teasing the sequel to Carry On, which was scheduled for a 2020 release. Her graphic novel collaboration with Faith Erin Hicks has long been scheduled for August 2019, and I think Pumpkinheads will be a match made in heaven. Still, I can read six issues in one evening, so it’s been a long time since I had some Rainbow to really sink my teeth into. I was pleasantly surprised by how well I connected to the characters, between Rainbow’s spot-on dialogue and Kris Anka’s expressive illustrations. Her recent output has been the Runaways comics, which I have been reading and enjoying as the six-issue collections come out every six months. And yet with all the book news dropping in the past week, 2019 is shaping up to be the year of literary dreams coming true. This fall I’ve already read a new Robert Galbraith, and I’m waiting on the latest Kate Morton from the library waitlist. I honestly got worried about choosing favorites for my end-of-year list, which is an absurd thing to worry about, but there you go.

At the beginning of the year, it felt like I was reading one fantastic book after another.
